Bike Starters was originally designed & produced by Barry Smith starting in 2013. Australian motorcycle legend!!
INNOVATION INSPIRED BY A RACING LEGACY
Barry’s background in motorcycle racing formed part of the inspiration for the Bike Starter roller units, he recognised that as Racetracks began to ban push / bump starting in the pits there needed to be another way to start the motorbike quick & easy.
Smith has been heavily involved in the Australian motorcycle industry for over 50 years, winning races in Australia and abroad during the 60’s – 80’s. He claimed victory in the 1968 Isle of Mann TT 50cc Ultra-Lightweight TT giving Spanish manufacturer Derbi their first win. Also has won 2 World Championships on 250cc Yamaha motorbike’s, 125cc Australian national championships in 1978 & 1981
A NEW ERA FOR BIKE STARTERS
In 2019 Barry decided to retire (at a very respectful 80) and began looking for someone to take over. In March 2020 he handed over bike starters to Richard Craigie whose passion for anything on two wheels led him to Barry Smith for a bike starter to help him start his pride and joy, the very lovely Suzuki 1978 RM400 amongst other motorbikes. It was Richard’s dream to make a quality, sought after product in his workshop that was suited for the motorcycle industry, so he put 49 years of life skills, hard work and past mistakes to turn it into one big thing “Bike Starters”
